Healing Pathways
Addictions
At Middle Way Health we use an interdisciplinary approach in dealing with addictions. Addictions affect our body, our mind, and our spirit.
Addictions also affect our relationships and society as a whole. We work with the whole person, which we believe is the quickest, safest and most effective way
to liberate ourselves from addictions.
Addictions are thoughts, behaviors and feelings that become split off from the rest of ourselves to the extent that they become the
sole object of our focus. We end up focused on them to the extent that we are able and willing to tolerate the negative consequences of this approach.
For example, with alcohol and drugs, the focus of our lives becomes not only the mood created by the substance but also our desperation
to procure the substance and avoid any situation that would stand in our way.
At Middle Way Health we will:
- Identify the source of the addiction
- Evaluate physical conditions
- Address mental health issues
- Utilize a wholistic approach
- Create a program designed around your personal requirements
- Coordinate all aspects of your treatment
- Provide confidential and skillful interaction with your employer if
necessary
Chemical Dependency
At Middle Way Health we see chemical dependency as a disease. Putting alcohol or drugs into our body is part of the disease and the first
behavior that needs to be stopped.
Stopping the alcohol or drug abuse allows our body, mind and emotions to go through a natural detoxification. Then we are ready to deal
with the spiritual, emotional and relationship issues around the addiction.
Over the last 50 years, an immense amount of research has been done on chemical dependency. There are established and effective programs
in place for treatment of chemical dependency. You can be free of the pain and suffering you experience with your abuse of alcohol or drugs.
Middle Way Health professionals will help you:
- Identify the truth of your dependency - Is this an addiction?
- See the consequences of continuing the addiction
- Educate your family and friends about supporting you in your healing
- Discover the best form of treatment for you
- Develop an overall health plan
"Out of Control" Lifestyles
Many times we can't seem to put our finger on what is going on in people's lives. They just seem to be out of control, not getting
things done, not following through, having one crisis after another, one health issue after another, one accident after another. Business
plans fall through, school isn't completed, and they are fired from jobs.
It doesn't seem to be just one thing that is the problem, and there are "reasons" for everything. We have all kinds of explanations ourselves,
but they don't bring any kind of clarity or solution. We get advice and have tried various things, but they fall short.
Middle Way Health offers a structure to understand and disengage from the "drama" of the situation, and to apply solution-focused
interventions.
At Middle Way Health we will teach you to:
- Identify problem lifestyles quickly
- Disengage from the drama
- Keep track of behaviors and change them before they loop again
- Devise a behavioral plan that can be tested
Overeating
Food is the number one addictive substance in the United States. Food addiction happens to everyone: young, old, rich, poor, educated,
and uneducated. It's the "legal" addiction. And it's always there, it never leaves us, and it doesn't judge us.
Like every other addiction, food is a choice. Eating is instinctual and necessary! But it is also a learned behavior. We can learn new
behavior and make different choices.
At Middle Way Health you will learn how to:
- Realistically change your eating habits
- Evaluate yourself non-judgmentally
- Reduce cravings
- Create a proven behavioral program to fit your lifestyle
- Involve your family and friends as a coaching and support team
Depression
The most misunderstood mental health problem is depression. What is it? How do we know when we are depressed, and is it our fault?
Is it a mental illness, an emotional problem, or a medical condition? Does medication help, and does medication itself make changes? Or
do we just have to change our way of thinking?
At Middle Way Health you will:
- Get straightforward answers
- Receive a comprehensive evaluation
- Be listened to non-judgmentally and compassionately
- Learn practical and concrete tools for a healthy, empowered life
- Connect with the right doctors, groups and resources
- Feel better because you are in control!
Anxiety & Stress
Albert Einstein said, "We live in the age of anxiety." Eminent psychologist Dr. Gary Hannon says, "If you're not anxious, you're
not paying attention." When we combine our fast paced lifestyle with pressing and repetitive concerns, we're anxious.
It's normal, particularly in the post 9/11 world, to experience thoughts and feelings that make us ill at ease, worried and apprehensive
about the future.
Most people, when asked, say they want to decrease their stress and relax, yet they want to maintain their energy and aliveness.
We will help you to do that.
At Middle Way Health you will:
- Feel the open and peaceful spaces "between" the anxious thoughts
and feelings
- Identify the specific triggers that create worry and stress
- Create internal 'power' responses to stressful events
- Find deep resources of serenity, power and initiative
- Connect with a caring and responsive support team
